House Sparrows

When you get a Bluebird house, there can be a Titmouse, House Sparrow, Chickadee, or Bluebird that will build their nest. If you get a House Sparrow, you should check the box every day and take all of the eggs out but one because sparrows kill other birds and their babies in their boxes. If you do that, it will keep them busy and away from the nice birds making their nests.

Have you seen any Humming Birds? I have seen three. My mom has only seen one. You can make your own nectar for a feeder. Just mix one cup of sugar with four cups of really hot water. You will need to change it every few days.

I have been busy planting a garden. If you plant a garden you should plant things birds like. We have planted six Cigar plants, Sunflowers, Cornflowers, Penstenon, Cardnial Climber, and Butterfly flowers.

Here is a map of my gardens. I took this with my new camera. If you are reading this Ms. Pam, thank you for my new camera.

Our Chickadee is sitting on her nest. The eggs should hatch soon. I will tell you about that when they do. She is a good mom.

Lake Day

Yesterday I saw two Barred Owls. The female is the same as the male except the female is a little bit bigger. They will not come on seed feeders. They only eat small animals. When they fly they don’t make any noise. I saw one fly yesterday. I think the Barred Owl has a flat face like it fell on its face. I think they are really cool. Especially the babies are cute.

I took this picture of one of the owls yesterday.

You will also find Blue Herons close to the lake. I took a picture of this one yesterday. I like the feathers coming out of its chest.

Goldfinches are Awesome

The finches you saw in the winter are probably not the same ones you are seeing now. They have gone north to stay during the summer. With the finches coming here now, the female is brownish yellowish and the male is really, really yellow. You should put nyjer seed in your feeders if you want to see them. I hope you like this.
